Troubleshoot the app

If something is broken, work through this list in order. Most issues are in the first three steps.

Universal first steps

  1. Force-close the app and reopen. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause, then swipe Ferber off the top. This fixes most temporary glitches.
  2. Restart your iPhone. Solves more bugs than you would expect.
  3. Update the app. Open the App Store, search for Ferber, and install any update.
  4. Update iOS. If you are several versions behind, some app behavior starts to drift.

If the issue persists, find the specific problem below.

The timer is frozen during a night

  1. Force-close the app and reopen it.
  2. If the timer still does not move, end the night and start the timer again. Use the waits from the intervals table for the rest of tonight if you need to.
  3. Email [email protected] with your iPhone model, iOS version and app version so we can look into it.

The alert did not fire at the end of an interval

Almost always a notification or audio routing issue, not the timer itself.

  1. Confirm notifications and check-in alerts are on. See notifications not working.
  2. Check that your phone is not on silent and that a Focus mode is not holding notifications back.
  3. Check that no audio output (Bluetooth headphones, AirPods, a car system) is taking the sound.
  4. If the alert still does not fire on the next interval, use a stopwatch for the rest of the night and email [email protected] with your iPhone model, iOS version and app version.

The history view is empty

  • You reinstalled the app or moved to a new iPhone. Night history is stored on the phone and there is no account to sync it, so deleting the app deletes the history. Restoring your iPhone from a backup made before you deleted the app may bring it back.
  • You have not finished a night yet. A night shows up in history once it has been completed.

The widget is showing stale data

  1. Open the app once to refresh widget data.
  2. If the widget still shows old data, remove it and add it again. iOS occasionally caches widget snapshots. See widget setup.

The app keeps crashing on launch

  1. Update the app.
  2. Restart your iPhone.
  3. If it still crashes, delete and reinstall the app. This deletes your night history on the phone. Your purchase can be restored for free.
  4. If the crash continues after reinstalling, email [email protected] with your iPhone model, iOS version and app version. Crash reports reach us anonymously, so we cannot tell which one is yours without those details.

The intervals do not match the night I am on

You can set the night yourself. Open Ferber's Settings, go to Your child > Current night, and choose the right night. The intervals update to match.

I paid, but Nights 2 to 7 are still locked

See restore purchases. Tap Restore purchases on the unlock screen or in Ferber's Settings under Purchase & about. If that does not find your purchase, you are likely signed in with a different Apple ID than the one that bought it.

None of these match my issue

Email [email protected] with:

  • iPhone model, iOS version, and app version (Settings > Purchase & about).
  • What you were trying to do.
  • What happened instead.
  • A screenshot or screen recording if relevant.
